San Marcos High School is the flagship school in the San Marcos Unified School District located in north county San Diego. The music program encompasses the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Marching Percussion performing ensembles. With a rich tradition in high accolades in every performance group, the SMHS music program takes pride in continually pressing forward by performing new compositions and stretching itself in new artistic directions. Students from the San Marcos program have performed across the United States and Europe and were excited to be a part of the world premier of Sails of Time in Sydney, Australia in 2006. Summer 2008 will find our musicians performing in Beijing, China for the Olympics Prefestivals.

Strong academics are a large component to the success of the San Marcos music program with a majority of its musicians on the Honor Roll. San Marcos is proud of its musical achievements and has also established itself a reputation for scholarships and leadership within the community. With alumni at some of the most prestigious universities across the country, including the Julliard School, the philosophy of the San Marcos program is to develop all facets of a student’s potential, using music as the common element.
