Marching Tournament Info

I thought I’d write out a little info about what happens at a tournament for our new students and families. If anyone has anything to add, please let me know. We will have five field show dates this season. Check out the calendar at www.smhsmusic.com for dates and times (when we have the times.)

So, our basic schedule:
Call time means time reporting time to SMHS.
Usually we’ll have some rehearsal time at school.
There will usually be a break to get some food (either bring food from home or go grab something close)
The loading crew (students) will load the truck with parent supervision and assistance.

Leave for the tournament location on school buses. (We’d like 2 chaperones per bus).
When they arrive truck is unloaded and everyone gets into uniforms.
Parents help with hair and plumes. (Long hair should be tied back already)
Band moves to an assigned warm up area.
Pit gets help from parent helpers and possibly siblings.
At the designated time, they move to the performance field.
We try to provide water just before they go on.
They enter the field, perform and move off within a time limit (I think 11 or 12 minutes)

After performing they move everything back and load the trucks and hang up uniforms.
Then they go back to the stands to watch other bands perform.
Students may want to bring a snack/food or money for the snack bar depending on how long
we'll be
there.
They usually stay till the awards event then head back to school.
Students and a certain number of designated parent helpers get free admission on the visitor’s side of the field. Everyone else would need to purchase a ticket, usually about $8 or $10 and sit on the home side.

Students ride to and from the tournament on the bus unless they get prior permission from Mr. Armstrong. We have a form to give the lead chaperone so they know of any alternate arrangements. Please try to only do this for an extreme situation.

These are very fun events and it’s awesome to see an entire day devoted to music and spend time with friends.

After our final tournament at Vista High School on 11/15, we have an annual family meal together and senior recognition in the parking lot. We love to have everyone there.
