Dear 8th Graders, I joined the San Marcos Knight Regiment as an 8th grader. Before then, music was just something I loved to play. After spending my 8th grade year marching bass drum on the drumline, I started to understand that music with the Regiment was so much more. Under the instruction of an A-class teacher, my skills grew and I could see my potential to be a great percussionist. But it was more than just my skills that grew. With the Regiment comes a family of people who love and care for each other. We're so diverse and come from many different social groups around the school. When you're together, no one is "the cheerleader" or "the geek" or "the athlete." We're all just a family of people who love what we do: playing music. Having that deep connection with such a big group of people enabled me to have a very smooth transition into high school. I was excited and terrified to leave middle school but relief came in the form of the Regiment. I knew that on my first day when I didn't know where to go, I would have them to tell me. When I didn't have anywhere to sit at lunch, I could go to them. And through the 4 years I've been with this family, they've helped me through a lot more than that. Music has been a blessing in my life and I'm thankful for the opportunity to continue my musical education through high school. It's a great outlet and, most of all, we have an extremely fun time doing what we love. Isn't that worth giving it a try? I think so and I hope you will agree.
