Dear 8th Grader, I am a freshman in Marching Band. I like the band because it teaches me a lot about music, I get to spend time with friends, and I receive P.E. credits toward graduation. My first semester, I took P.E. and found it to be terrible. But thanks to Mr. Armstrong, Marching Band now counts for one semester of P.E. I don’t have to take a P.E. class anymore, leaving an open period for whatever band subject I want to take. I have really improved in my tone quality and musicianship since I entered the band. I do multiple exercises, such as long tones, to become a better musician. When I joined, I had lots of fun and grew closer to my high school band members. I could hang out with friends after school and enjoy playing and marching together during practice. Meeting new people and making new friends adds to the fun. We attended football games, played challenging music, ate out together, and were part of the victories in tournaments. Hannah '12 Alto Sax |
